I’ve been navigating my own Voice Heath for years and it is especially coming up for me lately.
So I wanted to pass on what has helped me!
Healthy Voice Check List
- Hydration! Water, water and more water. Those vocal folds dry out easily and so do the muscles and connective tissue that assist in vocal production. To make sure your water is being absorbed by your cells add some honey and sea salt to your water. This acts as electrolytes for better hydration
- Zinc: Zinc lozenges can be great to ward off a throat infection. The zinc coats the throat and keeps the bacteria from settling in there.
- Humidifier: This can help keep your vocal chords, throat and sinuses clear and hydrated. So spend that 6-8 hours while you are sleeping marinating in hydrated air!
- Saline Spray: This has been invaluable to me since my ears do not like neti pots any more. I’ve used several squirts up each nostril to keep my sinuses clear and happy. Sinus health directly effects the tone of the voice.
- Inside Voice: If you have kids you may know the term, “Use your inside voice” . This applies to you too if you want to keep your voice healthy. All too often we can get into reactivity or shouting loud to call for our kids or maybe belting a voice out to sing along to the radio. Be mindful of how you are using your voice and attempt to use your inside voice more often then not
- Allowance: Allowance and unconditional love effect our voice dramatically at least that is what I have experienced. When we are in allowance of ourselves and the people around us there is an openness to our voice due to the relaxing of the muscles that effect the voice. It also allows more of lifeforce to flow thru so our voice is more supported.
- Gratitude: Throughout your day see if you can be grateful for your life, situations in your life, your body, your family, your things… whatever comes to mind to be grateful for. I’ve found this to be a wonderful way to lighten my voice up and relax any tension that could yuck up my voice.
Cheers to a healthy happy voice this season!
