Arriving Into the Vibration of Appreciation
In the quiet spaces of our day, those soft moments between one breath and the next, there is an opportunity to shift our entire consciousness with appreciation and gratitude. Appreciation is often born in those spaces. It doesn’t require improvement, resolution, or change. It simply asks us to notice.
Unity metaphysics offers us a profound understanding:
Appreciation is the conscious recognition of beauty, value, or divine presence—even before anything changes.
And in that recognition, appreciation becomes the pathway into gratitude, and gratitude becomes the doorway into Divine consciousness.
The Energetics of Appreciation and Gratitude
Gratitude and appreciation are often spoken of together, but spiritually, they have different functions.
Appreciation is awareness.
Gratitude is alignment.
Charles Fillmore reminds us:
“Thanksgiving may seem to have no connection with spiritual development, yet it is the very soil in which the spirit thrives.”
— Unity Correspondence School Lessons
Before we can truly give thanks, we must first see the good that is already here. This is why appreciation is the beginning of shifting consciousness. It opens our spiritual eyes. It tunes us to the Divine already unfolding.
“Appreciation is the lens that reveals the Divine even before the prayer is answered.”
How Appreciation Softens the Heart and Shifts Awareness
Emilie Cady wrote one of Unity’s most powerful insights:
“There is something about the mental act of thanksgiving that seems to carry the human mind far beyond the region of doubt… into the clear atmosphere of faith and trust where all things are possible.”
— Lessons in Truth
But how do we move from doubt to trust?
Through appreciation.
Appreciation is the gentle bridge between fear and faith, between effort and surrender, between wanting and allowing. It lifts the veils between our limited perception and our true spiritual nature.
When we appreciate—even something small—we awaken the soul’s memory of goodness and oneness.
“Noticing is the beginning of awakening.”
Appreciation as Praise in Action
Myrtle Fillmore said:
“Praise is gratitude in action.”
Appreciation is the first spark of praise.
It names the good.
It blesses what is here.
It honors the Divine within the details of daily life.
Charles Fillmore deepened this teaching:
“Bless what you receive; bless what you send out.”
— Mysteries of John
This is appreciation in motion.
When we bless everything-even what hasn’t yet manifested-we align with the Divine blueprint of our life. We bless the becoming. We bless the unfolding. And from that vibration, gratitude arises naturally.
“Appreciation blesses the becoming, not just the outcome.”
The Momentum of Appreciation and the Expansion Into Awe
Many teachings, including those from Abraham Hicks, describe appreciation as a frequency that builds momentum. As we appreciate where we are, what we have, and what is unfolding, our energy rises into clarity, ease, and joy.
This leads to a remarkable progression:
Appreciation → Gratitude → Awe
And awe is the state where the soul recognizes Divine Will in action.
In awe, desire rooted in lack dissolves. Appreciation brings us out of egoic wanting and into Divine knowing. It vibrates as “already having,” which aligns us with higher consciousness and abundant flow.
This is why affirmative prayer in Unity is so powerful:
It doesn’t ask from lack—it affirms from appreciation.
From Appreciation to Christ Consciousness
In Unity, our highest spiritual aim is to awaken to our oneness with God—what we call Christ Consciousness. Appreciation is a direct pathway into that awareness.
It:
grounds us in presence,
harmonizes perception,
and dissolves separation.
Emilie Cady wrote:
“The ultimate aim of every soul should be to come into the consciousness of an indwelling God.”
Appreciation is the tuning fork that harmonizes the human mind with the tone of Spirit. It reveals God here, now, in this moment-without waiting for conditions to change.
As Rumi so beautifully expressed:
“Be grateful for your life, every detail of it, and your face will come to shine like a sun… Persist in gratitude, and you will slowly become one with the Sun of Love.”
“Appreciation is the tuning fork of Divine awareness.”
A Formula for Sustaining Higher Consciousness
Spiritual awakening is not linear. We move in and out of awareness as old subconscious patterns release. But appreciation, gratitude, and awe help us stabilize higher consciousness.
These frequencies shift us from egoic control into Divine flow.
From striving into knowing.
From separation into oneness.
A Course of Love echoes this transition by teaching that we are moving beyond intellectual learning and into feeling, awareness, and knowing. Appreciation is a key frequency in this shift, a portal into the lived experience of oneness.
When we choose appreciation, we align with Divine Will. We become open to guidance. We co-create consciously. We become instruments of Love.
Resting in the Vibration of Gratitude
As appreciation attunes us and gratitude anchors us, awe expands us into the fullness of our Divine identity. We begin to live not from gratitude but as gratitude.
We walk through the world with softer edges, steadier presence, and clearer vision.
And from that frequency, life unfolds with grace, alignment, and abundance.
