It has been a huge blessing to be a mother this lifetime. Yet it has not been the easiest ride that is for sure. There have been so many times I have been brought to my knees in overwhelm, exhaustion, confusion and asking for something different. However, I’ve always found myself standing back up, brushing my knees off and giving it another go. For me, the only choice was to find a different way within myself to open to new possibilities.

During the past 16 years of being a mother, I have found myself on a path of exploration. I have explored many ways to come back to center, to find inner calm, to forgive myself, to develop allowance, and to expand my perspectives. Not only has this been first aid for myself in challenging times, but my family as well.

A new first aid kit was needed

The typical first aid kit has the much-needed gadgets to stop blood from spilling all over the place and to curb the discomfort. However, in my experience, I have needed this type of first aid kid much less than the one I use practically on a daily basis. The first aid kit I needed was one that spanned more than just the physical, but one that included mental, emotional, and spiritual support as well….

When I got pregnant I was a certified Yoga teacher in the process of getting my Yoga therapy certification. I did a 2-hour practice daily and thought I would have to keep this up as a mom to stay sane in this crazy world. LOL. Well, my world was about to get crazier and I was about to have less time to keep myself ‘balanced’. To my surprise, motherhood taught me that there is no balance to life. Motherhood taught me about creating in the moment, about extreme presence and where suffering truly stems from.

Instead of balance I began to see that it was release from the resistance that was required. It is the resistance to what is that really creates suffering. Each practice in my first aid kit has assisted me in coming back to presence instead of balance. Life, especially when you are caretaking for children, NEVER has balance. Oh, you can try to create it, but rest assured someone will get ill, or not be able to sleep. Someone will refuse food or put up a tantrum or have their own agenda. I started to notice that the perspective of balance actually created more hardship for me. In trying to keep life balanced, I was refusing to receive what the present was offering.

My most important tool

While all the things in my first aid kit have been invaluable, I have to say that Reiki is probably my most important tool. It is most accepted by everyone in my family and can be offered in so many ways. The versatility of Reiki allows me to be a ninja with it. I use Reiki at bedtime, when cooking, and when I am sending my kids off into the world. Reiki is also a wonder with normal first aid issues too, like sprained ankles, broken bones, scratches and bruises.
But my most important way to use Reiki is in the morning when I meditate. Sometimes it is 5 min. or sometimes it is 45min. Meditating with Reiki and focusing on the Reiki Ideals has helped me find a deep inner calm, patience, and allowance for some of the crazy phases of child development.

While you carry with you your band-aids and Neosporin, perhaps consider where else you could use support in these chaotic times. What do you want to add to your first aid kit?
IF you are curious about any of the things I have in mine, I’d be happy to share more. Please just leave a comment or question and I will get back to you! IF you would like further assistance in creating a first aid kit that works for you, let’s get on a coaching call and dive in deep!
